Academic policies at Oregon
Graduating with honors
| Honor | Minimum cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.75 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.85 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.95 |
The bands run 3.75–3.84 cum laude, 3.85–3.94 magna cum laude, and 3.95 or higher summa cum laude. You must complete all degree requirements and earn at least 90 credits in residence at UO, and post-baccalaureate students are not eligible.
Dean's List
Oregon requires a term GPA of at least 3.75. UO's Dean's List requires at least 12 credits taken for a letter grade during the term with a term GPA of 3.75 or better, announced after fall, winter, and spring terms.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. Good standing requires both term and cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher. A term GPA below 2.00 with an adequate cumulative triggers a warning; probation follows if your cumulative drops below 2.00, or if your three most recent term GPAs are all below 2.00.
Repeating a course
UO offers no grade forgiveness in the usual sense — repeating a course does not erase the earlier grade, and all attempts count toward your GPA. If you did not pass a course, you can retake it up to three times total, including attempts elsewhere, before needing to petition.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Undergraduates need a C− or better to earn a Pass, and grades of P and N do not affect your GPA. Which courses allow the option, and any limits on how many you can take that way, are set department by department.
