| Cum laude | 3.70 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.80 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.90 |

Good academic standing
Since the summer 2025 move to Workday Student, undergraduate academic standing — Scholastic Warning, Probation, and Drop — is determined purely by GPA rather than quality points. Check your Workday student profile or your college for the cutoffs that apply to you. Graduate students need at least a 3.0 to remain in good standing.
Repeating a course
Since the Workday Student transition, retaking a course means only your most recent grade counts toward your GPA and degree requirements — even if it is lower than your first attempt. You can retake a course graded D+ or below without approval; retaking one you passed with a C− or better, or a third attempt, needs your dean's sign-off, and financial aid will not cover a second repeat of credit you already earned.
LSU's policies changed with Workday Student in 2025
LSU switched to the Workday Student system in summer 2025 and rewrote several academic policies in the process — GPA calculation, course repeats, and academic standing all changed. If any of your coursework predates the switch, confirm with the registrar how it is being counted under the new system.
Dean's List and President's Honor Roll
LSU recognises strong semester performance through both a Dean's List and a President's Honor Roll, published each semester by college on the registrar's site. The GPA cutoff for each is not posted campus-wide, so ask your college's dean's office for the current figure.
