| Honor | Minimum cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.50 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.70 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.90 |
The bands are 3.500–3.699 cum laude, 3.700–3.899 magna cum laude, and 3.900–4.000 summa cum laude, based on at least 45 graded University of Arizona credit units. Pass/Fail and S grades do not count toward that 45-unit minimum, and any Incomplete must be resolved before honors are awarded.
Dean's List
UArizona requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. You qualify with a term GPA of 3.500–3.999 on at least 12 graded credit units if full-time, or 6 to 11 units if half-time. A perfect 4.000 earns Dean's List with Distinction instead.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in Eligible standing, checked at the end of each fall and spring semester. Falling below moves you to Academic Warning, then Probation, then Ineligible status.
Repeating a course
If you repeat a course, your GPA reflects only the highest grade earned between attempts — the lower grade stops counting once you retake it. The separate Grade Replacement Opportunity is available to graduate and Juris Doctorate students, not to undergraduates in undergraduate courses.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Under the Pass/Fail option undergraduates earn a P for work comparable to a D or better, and Pass/Fail grades are excluded entirely from your GPA. You may use it for up to 12 courses across your undergraduate career, but not to fulfill general education, major, or minor requirements.
