Georgetown requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. You need a 3.5 GPA or better while enrolled full-time, meaning at least 12 credits of coursework carrying quality points.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You are placed on probation if you fail a course or your cumulative GPA drops below 2.0, and while on probation you must earn a 2.0 term GPA carrying at least 12 credits. Suspension becomes a risk if your cumulative GPA falls below roughly 1.20 as a first-year, 1.70 as a sophomore, or 1.90 as a junior.
Repeating a course
Georgetown's repeat policy is unusual: you generally cannot repeat a course you already earned credit in, so repeats mostly apply to failed courses. If you repeat and pass a previously failed course, both the F and the passing grade count in your GPA. In the rarer case a passed course is repeated, only the first passing grade counts — even if the second attempt is better.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Except in your first year, you can take one elective per semester Pass/Fail, up to six courses or 24 credits across your degree. Language-level and studio art courses are excluded, and the deadline matches the course withdrawal deadline.
