Academic policies at UCF

Graduating with honors

HonorMinimum cumulative GPA
Cum laude3.80
Magna cum laude3.90
Summa cum laude3.95

UCF's cutoffs are unusually high: 3.800 for cum laude, 3.900 for magna cum laude, and 3.950 for summa cum laude, calculated once you have completed at least 48 credit hours including transfer credit as of the start of your graduation term. Honors printed in the commencement program are presumptive because final grades are not yet posted. A finding of academic dishonesty makes you ineligible regardless of GPA.

Dean's List

UCF requires a term GPA of at least 3.40. You need a term GPA of at least 3.4 across a minimum of 12 credit hours, with no grade below a C and no I, U, N, NC, or WF grades that term.

Good academic standing

You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. A cumulative UCF GPA below 2.0 places you on academic probation, which continues until you return to 2.0 or better. Failing to earn at least a 2.0 term GPA in your next semester results in academic disqualification, which blocks you from registering.

Repeating a course

Grade Forgiveness lets you retake a course in which you earned a C− or lower, and the new grade substitutes for the original in your GPA. You must submit the request by the deadline on that term's academic calendar, and forgiving a grade of C or better requires prior approval from the dean's office that offers the course.

Pass/fail grades and your GPA

Since Fall 2023 undergraduates in good standing can opt into Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading for eligible courses, choosing between registration and the add/drop deadline. An S earns credit with no GPA effect for a C or higher; a U earns no credit and also no GPA effect. You are limited to four S/U elections total at UCF.
