Miami ranks you within your own school or college rather than against a fixed cutoff. Every summer the university recalculates the minimum GPA for each tier from the prior year's graduating class, so the number differs by year and by school. You must meet your school's current-year figure by the end of your final semester.
Dean's List
Miami requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. You need a 3.50 or higher semester GPA across 12 or more graded credit hours, with Credit Only coursework excluded and no incomplete or missing grades.
Good academic standing
Miami's cumulative GPA floor rises as you earn credit: 1.70 below 33 credit hours, 1.80 at 33–64, 1.90 at 65–96, and 2.00 above 96. First-semester freshmen are judged differently — you go on probation only if your first-semester GPA falls below 1.30. Two consecutive semesters on probation can lead to dismissal.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Miami calls this Credit Only rather than pass/fail. You can take a course for CR or NC instead of a letter grade, but only as a free elective — it cannot count toward your major, minor, or degree requirements. CR/NC grades appear on your transcript but are excluded from your GPA.
Two honor rolls above the Dean's List
Miami runs two higher semester tiers: the Provost's Honor Roll for a 3.75 semester GPA and the President's Honor Roll for a 4.0. Both use the same 12-graded-credit minimum and no-pending-grades rule as the Dean's List.
Your honors GPA uses whichever number is lower
For Latin honors, Miami takes whichever is lower: your GPA from Miami coursework alone, or your combined GPA including all transfer coursework, whether or not it counted toward your degree. This figure is never rounded up.
