Dean's List
Tennessee requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. Tennessee is unusual in applying the same tiered structure to its Dean's List as to graduation honors: a term GPA of 3.50–3.69, 3.70–3.89, or 3.90–4.00 earns a cum laude, magna, or summa distinction for that semester, across at least 12 credit hours not counting Satisfactory/No-Credit coursework.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. Good standing requires both your semester and cumulative GPA to be 2.00 or above. Probation follows a cumulative below 2.00, or a semester GPA below 2.00 for two consecutive semesters, and dismissal follows if both are still below while on probation.
Repeating a course
Tennessee offers no true grade forgiveness: under the UT System's repeat policy, every grade you earn in a repeated course is averaged into your cumulative GPA rather than replacing the earlier one. Each repeated course counts once toward degree credit, and you can attempt any course a maximum of three times without a dean's exception.
