Graduating with honors
| Honor | Minimum cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.923 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.968 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.988 |
These are the College of Letters and Science cutoffs for the 2025–26 year. UCLA recalculates them annually from the graduating cohort, and each school and college publishes its own set — Engineering, for example, adds a minimum 3.25 GPA in upper-division major coursework. You must also complete at least 90 University of California units for a letter grade. Check the Registrar's honors page for the figures in effect in your graduating year.
An A+ does not beat an A
UCLA awards the A+ but caps it at 4.0 grade points, exactly the same as an A. Because UCLA honors cutoffs sit near 3.99, that cap matters: there is no way to bank grade points above 4.0 to offset a lower grade elsewhere.
