Academic policies at Baylor
Graduating with honors
| Honor | Minimum cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| Cum laude | 3.75 |
| Magna cum laude | 3.85 |
| Summa cum laude | 3.95 |
Baylor's thresholds are among the highest in this dataset, and they are calculated only from your Baylor residence coursework — credit by examination does not count. Commencement honors are based on your GPA through the prior term, while your diploma and transcript reflect your final GPA once all grades are in.
Dean's List
Baylor requires a term GPA of at least 3.70. You need at least 12 graded semester hours, with Pass/Fail and Credit/No Credit courses excluded from that total, and no grade below a C. It uses your semester GPA rather than your cumulative, and only undergraduates are eligible.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You are placed on Academic Notice if your term GPA, cumulative GPA, or both fall below 2.00, and you come off once both are back at 2.00 or above.
Repeating a course
If your highest grade in a course was a C− or below, you can repeat it and request Academic Grade Forgiveness for up to three courses across your undergraduate career. The excluded grade stays on your transcript marked with an E but drops out of your GPA, and once applied it cannot be undone. You get a maximum of three attempts at any one course, and a withdrawal counts as an attempt.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
With your dean's permission you can take one standard graded course per term pass-fail, up to 18 semester hours toward your degree. Pass-fail credit counts only as a general elective, and Hankamer School of Business students cannot use it for any B.B.A. requirement.
