These use your pure Texas Tech GPA — grade-replaced courses are excluded, and only coursework taken at Texas Tech counts. You need at least 48 semester hours completed at Texas Tech, including your final two semesters. Separately, finishing the Honors College with 24 or more Honors credits graduates you with Honors, and adding a 6-hour Honors thesis earns Highest Honors.
Dean's List
Texas Tech requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. You qualify for your college's Dean's Honor List with a 3.5 GPA or higher in a fall or spring semester while enrolled in at least 12 counting hours; pass/fail courses do not count. A 4.0 under the same rule earns the President's Honor List instead.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. Falling below a 2.0 cumulative Texas Tech GPA moves you to Academic Warning, then Probation, then a one-semester Suspension, then a one-year Dismissal. A fourth consecutive term below 2.0 leads to Permanent Academic Dismissal.
Repeating a course
Texas Tech's Grade Replacement policy covers a D or F — C or better grades are not eligible. Only your most recent attempt counts toward your GPA until you earn a C or better, with the original staying on your transcript with a replacement notation. There is no cap on how many times you can grade-replace, but you are charged the non-resident tuition rate from your fourth attempt at the same course.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Undergraduates can take up to 13 elective semester hours pass-fail, declaring by the last day a W is given for dropped courses, with no switching back afterward. Courses inside your declared major or minor generally cannot be taken pass-fail, students on probation are not eligible, and a failing grade still counts against your GPA even though a passing one does not.
Your honors GPA ignores grade replacement
Texas Tech computes Latin honors from your cumulative GPA without any grade replacements applied. If you have replaced grades, your honors GPA will be lower than the GPA shown on your transcript — a difference worth checking before you count on a designation.
