Dean's List
Northeastern requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. You need a 3.500 GPA or higher for the semester with no incomplete grade and nothing below a C−. You are ineligible if you are on any form of probation or carrying less than a full load, normally four courses or 16 semester hours. It is awarded after fall and spring only.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.000 at the end of each semester after your freshman year — 1.800 is enough during freshman-year semesters — plus at least 12 semester hours earned in the semester just completed. Remaining on probation for two full terms can lead to dismissal.
Repeating a course
You can retake a nonrepeatable course to improve your grade. Only the most recent grade counts toward your GPA, marked I for included, while the earlier attempt stays on your transcript marked E for excluded. You still pay normal tuition for the retake.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
If you are not on probation you can take one course per semester satisfactory/unsatisfactory with your college's permission, generally limited to electives outside your major, minor, or NUpath requirements. S/U grades do not count toward your GPA, and you must declare by the end of week 2, extendable to week 8.
