You are ineligible for any Latin honor if you have received a sanction of probation or greater under the Code of Academic Integrity, the Code of Student Conduct, or the university's sexual and relationship violence policy — and an honor already posted can be removed if such a finding comes later.
Dean's List
Penn discontinued its university-wide Dean's List as of July 1, 2023. Before that it required a 3.7 GPA across the fall and spring semesters combined, at least 6 letter-graded course units, and no grade below C.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. Requirements vary by school. In the College of Arts and Sciences you need a term and cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and falling below a 1.7 in either triggers the more serious Academic Status Warning. Engineering, Nursing, and Wharton each set their own standards.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Rules vary by school. In the College of Arts and Sciences you can take up to 8 course units pass/fail; a passing grade posts as P and does not affect your GPA, but an F still counts as 0.0. Pass/fail cannot be used for foundational, sector, major, or minor requirements.
