Academic policies at SDSU

Good academic standing

You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You are in good standing when both your overall cumulative GPA and your SDSU GPA are 2.0 or higher; falling below on either puts you on Academic Notice. Dropping below a sliding scale based on units completed — 1.50 at 29 or fewer units, 1.70 at 30–59, 1.85 at 60–89, and 1.95 at 90 or more — makes you subject to Disqualification.

Repeating a course

SDSU's Course Repeat and Grade Forgiveness policy lets you retake a course where you earned a C− or lower, and only your most recent grade is then calculated into your GPA. You can use forgiveness on a given course only once, capped at 16 forgiven units out of a maximum 28 repeatable units. Courses involving a finding of academic dishonesty are ineligible.

Pass/fail grades and your GPA

In SDSU's Credit/No Credit system, undergraduates earn CR for work equivalent to a C or better and NC for C− or below. An NC is not calculated into your GPA, though some other institutions treat a transferred NC as an F. You must select CR/NC grading by the 10th day of instruction.
