Dean's List
UC San Diego requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. UCSD's per-quarter honor is called Provost Honors rather than Dean's List. You need a 3.5 or higher UC GPA across at least 12 graded units that quarter, with no D, F, or NP grades.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You need a 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate and to stay off Academic Notice, plus 36 units completed across any three consecutive quarters. A term GPA under 1.5, or two consecutive notice terms without reaching a 2.0, can lead to disqualification.
Repeating a course
For the first 16 units of D, F, or NP grades you repeat, the original grade is dropped from your GPA entirely and only the new grade counts. Beyond that 16-unit cap, both the original and repeated grades are averaged in.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Pass/Not Pass requires work equivalent to a C− or better to earn the P, counts toward units but not GPA, and is capped at one-fourth of your total UCSD units. Your department may not allow it for major courses, and you must choose it by the end of week 6.
