No more than 16% of UCI's graduating seniors receive Latin Honors, and the GPA cutoff is recalculated annually and set separately by each school. For Fall 2025 through Summer 2026 graduates, summa ranged from about 3.956 to 4.00, magna from 3.879 to 3.973, and cum laude from 3.742 to 3.929 depending on school. You need at least 72 units completed in residence at a UC campus.
Dean's List
UC Irvine requires a term GPA of at least 3.50. UCI's Dean's Honor List requires at least 12 graded units in a quarter with a GPA of 3.500 or better.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. You need a 2.0 GPA both for the quarter and cumulatively. Falling below in either normally triggers academic probation.
Repeating a course
You may repeat a course graded C−, D+, D, D−, F, or NP. For the first 16 units you repeat, only the most recent grade counts toward your GPA; any repeats beyond that cap count both the original and the new grade.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Pass/Not Pass is capped at an average of 4 units per quarter, plus a separate allowance of 12 units of courses designated Pass/Not Pass Only. A C− or better earns a Pass, changes are allowed through week 10, and P/NP generally cannot satisfy your major's course requirements unless your dean authorises it.
