Graduating with honors

| High Honors | Next 6% | — |
| Honors | Next 11.5% | — |
UCSB awards Highest Honors, High Honors, and Honors rather than Latin titles, and the GPA needed is recalculated each year from the prior year's graduating class and differs by college. For Fall 2025 through Summer 2026 graduates, Engineering's cutoffs run higher — Highest Honors at 3.98 and above — than Creative Studies and Letters and Science at 3.97. You need at least 60 graded UC units.
Dean's List
UC Santa Barbara requires a term GPA of at least 3.75. UCSB's quarterly honor is Dean's Honors, and the bar is unusually high: a 3.75 or better GPA across at least 12 letter-graded units that quarter, with no NP grades.
Good academic standing
You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 to stay in good academic standing. Undergraduates are expected to keep a cumulative UC GPA of 2.0 or higher, and falling below at the end of any quarter normally triggers academic notice.
Repeating a course
You may repeat a course graded C−, D+, D, D−, F, or NP. For the first 16 units repeated, only the most recent grade counts toward your GPA unless it is an NP; repeats beyond the 16-unit cap count both grades.
Pass/fail grades and your GPA
Pass/No Pass requires a C or better to earn the P. There is no per-quarter course cap, but you are limited to 8 NP units in a quarter and 20 across your time at UCSB, and at least 120 units must be letter-graded. It generally cannot be used for major courses unless your department opts in.
