Player 2 rack 0 → 0
Jokers × 30
Player 3 rack 0 → 0
Jokers × 30
Player 4 rack 0 → 0
Jokers × 30
Player 1 0
How Rummikub scoring works
A round of Rummikub ends when one player empties their rack. The others turn their racks around and add up the numbers on their remaining tiles. A joker counts 30. Each of those players writes their total down as a negative number, and the player who went out writes down the combined total of all of them as a positive number.
That makes every round a zero-sum exchange: whatever the losers give up, the winner collects. A quick sanity check for a filled-in row is that it adds up to 0. Over several rounds, the player with the highest total wins the game.
A worked example round
Four players. Lena goes out. The other racks look like this:
- Omar: 4, 9 and 11 = 24, so he scores −24.
- Kim: 2, 13 and a joker = 15 + 30 = 45, so she scores −45.
- Tess: 6 and 7 = 13, so she scores −13.
Lena scores 24 + 45 + 13 = +82. The row reads +82, −24, −45, −13, which balances to 0.
To do this with the rack counter under the sheet, pick Lena as the player who went out, type each other player's tile numbers (24, 15 and 13) and set Kim's jokers to 1. Press Enter round and all four boxes fill in.
When the pool runs out
Sometimes the pool is empty and nobody can go out. Play carries on until no one is able to place a tile, then the player with the lowest rack total wins the round. Each other player loses only the differencebetween their rack and the winner's, and the winner gains the sum of those differences so the round still balances.
For example, if the racks finish at 8, 20 and 35, the player on 8 wins. The others score −12 and −27, and the winner scores +39. Choose Pool ran out, nobody went outin the counter and enter every player's rack. If two players tie for the lowest rack, the counter stops and asks you to settle it your own way, because published rules don't agree on that case.
How long is a game?
The rule sheet leaves the length of a game up to the players, so the scorekeeper supports both common choices in Players & settings:
- A set number of rounds. Agree on a number before you start; one round per player, so everyone gets to start a round, is a fair choice. The game ends when that many rows are complete.
- Play to a target. Pick a total such as 100 or 200; the game ends after the round in which anyone reaches it.
Fill in both and the game ends at whichever comes first. Leave both blank to keep adding rounds until you decide to stop.
Things that don't affect the score
- The 30-point initial meld. Your first play must total at least 30 from your own tiles, but that number is never written on the score sheet.
- Tiles drawn as a penalty. Taking back a bad play or running out of time means drawing tiles, which only matter if they are still on your rack at the end.
- Who starts. Players draw a tile to decide who goes first; it has no effect on scoring.

Frequently asked questions
How do you score Rummikub?
When a player places their last tile, each other player adds up the numbers on the tiles still on their rack and scores that total as a minus. The player who went out scores the sum of everyone else's racks as a plus. Each round therefore adds up to zero across the table.
How much is a joker worth in Rummikub scoring?
A joker left on your rack counts 30 points against you. Jokers are the most expensive tiles to get caught with, so it usually pays to play them before the round ends.
What happens if the pool runs out and nobody goes out?
Play continues until no one can make a move. The player with the lowest rack total wins the round. Every other player loses the difference between their rack and the winner's, and the winner gains the total of those differences. Choose “Pool ran out” in the counter to score it this way.
How many rounds are in a game of Rummikub?
The rules leave it to the players. Many tables agree on a number of rounds, for example one per player, and the highest total after the last round wins. Others play until someone reaches a target. Set either one (or both) in setup.
Can scores be negative in Rummikub?
Yes, and most players will spend part of the game below zero. Every loss is recorded as a negative number, so a player who has not won a round yet will always have a negative total.
Do I need to count tiles that were part of a 30-point initial meld?
No. Only tiles still on your rack when the round ends are counted. Tiles you have already placed on the table, including your opening meld, never count against you.
